How to change or update your Minecraft version
Move your server to a new Minecraft version in one step, with a backup made first.
- Open your server's panel. On the Overview tab, next to Version, press Change version.
- Pick a version. The list only shows versions your server software can run, so brand-new releases appear once Paper or Fabric support them.
- Leave Back up the server first ticked and press Change version.
- When it's online again, open the Plugins (or Mods) tab and press Update all so they match.
Latest or a fixed version?
Latest moves to each new release whenever the server restarts. A fixed version stays put until you change it, which is safer if you rely on plugins or mods that take a while to update.
Going back to an older version
Minecraft can't safely open a world in an older version than the one it was last saved with, so the panel warns you first. If an update goes wrong, restore the backup made before the change from the Backups tab instead.
